As Sal entertains her grandparents with Phoebe's outrageous story, her own story begins to unfold—the story of a girl whose only wish is to be reunited with her missing mother.
The ending is really surprising and the story is actually quite sad. Old Faithful and many of the world's geysers are preserved here. At the same time, Sal decides that she will make amends with Mrs. Choose one of these states to find out more about. While Sal is in the car, she is telling a story about a girl named Phoebe.
