A scientifically literate person is able to transfer knowledge of the academic theories and principles of science to practical applications in the real world. Then listen to your thoughts pop into your head, like magic. All scientists, and science students, must be able to effectively communicate their ideas.

Students establish connections between their current knowledge of science and the scientific knowledge found in many sources; they apply science content to new questions; they engage in problem solving, planning, decision making, and group discussions; and they experience assessments that are consistent with an active approach to learning.
Think of two questions and tell me how you could benefit from knowing the answers to BOTH. Students should develop an understanding of the historic as well as the contemporary geographic, social, political and economic consequences of the various areas and problems they review.
